Many of our clients ask us what biofeedback is, so we thought it best to explain what biofeedback is, why it matters during your wellness journey, and which biofeedback markers you should look out for.
“Bio” is the reference to life or living things.
“Feedback” is the transmission of evaluative or corrective information about an action, event, or process to the original or controlling source.
So what is biofeedback?
In fitness coaching terms, biofeedback is the evaluative information about the process related to life/living things. In this case, the “inner workings” of the human body and its total health.
In other words, biofeedback is how you and your coach determine how well things are functioning within your body.
As much as we wish they did, bodies don’t speak in words. Our bodies speak in symptoms known as physiological expressions.
If you want to understand your body, properly care for it, and get it to progress optimally, you need to learn how to speak its language.
Any “good” coach can spit out some macros for you to follow and tell you how much cardio to do, but that only gets you so far.

To truly cater every program, protocol, and detail to the individual, a GREAT coach knows how to assess your biofeedback from week to week. They also know what questions to ask to accurately assess your biofeedback.
Biofeedback helps your fitness coach understand how well you’re recovering from your workouts, how well you’re digesting your food, and how well you’re functioning as a fully integrated unit. Your biofeedback lets us know how you’re doing mentally, physically, and emotionally.

We want to get a thorough “look” into every aspect of your life as best as possible, and we want to help you understand your biofeedback so you can make any necessary adjustments or be reassured that you’re on the right track.
Our goal is not to have you as a client forever but to teach you how to eventually do this on your own. We’re happy to guide you for as long as it takes, and we believe that the education we provide will empower you to live a better and healthier life.

You should start paying attention to these biofeedback markers even if you haven’t started your coaching relationship with us just yet! Even if you don’t fully understand them, you watch for red flags such as consistently poor sleep quality, painful periods, or constant hunger.
